10 Things Every Husband Wants To Hear

In any area of a man’s life, his level of performance is in direction proportion to his wife’s confidence in him.  I was reminded of that fact this morning as we were getting ready for the day and my wife said “I love my life!”

As she said that I was filled with a healthy sense of pride.  As a husband and father, you want your family to enjoy the life you are working so hard for them to have.  As a leader, you want to hear similar comments from your team.

After 20 years of marriage, the following are ten things I love to hear my wife say.  Just in case you are wondering, I’m leaving out anything related to intimacy.  There are plenty of blogs out there regarding that subject.

  1. “I love my life!” – Already addressed.
  2. “Honey, the yard looks great!”
  3. “You look handsome today.”
  4. “Have you lost weight?”
  5. “He’s home! He’s home! He’s home!” – For more information on this, read Ladies, How To Welcome A Man Home by clicking here.
  6. “Honey, kick your feet up and relax.  Would you like to watch the game?” – Insert your particular hobby here.
  7. “I love my church.” – Anyone who has ever dealt with the opposite of this knows how difficult that can be.
  8. “You’re a great father.”
  9. “You were born to do this.” – Insert your unique calling in here.
  10. “I love you” – when said for no apparent reason, just because she does.

Like in any marriage, there is also a list of things she says that I don’t like to hear.  However, I do love hearing that list of ten.  What are some of your favorite things to hear from your spouse?

  2. I am a “words of affirmation” guy through and through! (Five Love Lanugages)

Really, any heartfelt compliment will do! These are some of my day-to-day faves.

    – “Dinner was really good!” (I am the main cook in our house)
    – “You are really good at what you do.” (my job)
    – “That outfit looks great on you.” (I can be painfully self-conscious)
    – “Thank you.” (Sometimes the mundane, daily chores go without thanks.)

    • John,

That’s a great list. Hopefully, a lot of readers will add their comments as well. By the way, your words of affirmation are a great encouragement to me. We’ve got to grab a cup of coffee sometime.

      Thanks again,
      Brian

  3. I love to randomly tell my husband I love him. He’s always surprised and grateful.
And our yard ALWAYS looks great. 🙂
    What a nice post.
