4 Ways To Impact A Man’s Life

Recently, www.smedioi.com had a blog post entitled How To Market To Men On The Social Web written by Douglas Idugboe.  There were several interesting findings including men spend more for online shopping than women.

Churches are constantly looking for ways to impact the lives of men.  The following are the lessons and quality insights from this post that pastors and church leaders can apply.

  1. Men Have A Short Decision Cycle – With men, you want to keep the decisions simple.  I know this comes as a complete shock to most women!  Seriously though, men frequently shop online due to ease of the purchase.  Also, men have money to spend.  Church leaders, make sure your “asks” of men are easily understood, short and memorable, and easy to respond to.  Keep it simple!
  2. Blogging Manliness – Men do not network socially as much as women but they sure love to blog.  I can understand that.  Idugboe points out that men enjoy “unique, original, and informational content”.  To reach men, your services, small groups, and service opportunities must be content driven and extremely creative.  Otherwise, they will lose interest quickly because men are not under-challenged.
  3. Social Bookmarking – Men frequent bookmarks and recommendation sites before making final purchases.  Church leaders, if you want to reach men, the best way to begin this process is that someone they trust invites them to your church while providing a strong testimonial about the value of your ministry.
  4. Men Mean Business – While women are generally relational, men are primarily transactional.  Church leaders need to understand that when a man visits your church, he makes a conscious decision of what his time is worth in getting ready, travel, gas, food, and actual time at the church.  His ROI must exceed what he perceives he has invested.

It is fascinating to me that men outpace women in online shopping.  Men search for value.  If a man comes to your church and finds it, he will return again and again bringing his family with him.
